BED's 2008 IRP Energy Star Website East Avenue Loop transmission project City or Burlington home page Take a Renewable Energy Survey. Project Porchlight for Burlington

Top Ten

Top Ten is BED’s energy savings program for its largest commercial and industrial customers. Through rebates and reduced monthly bills, customers benefit by seeing the savings immediately.

It is an easy-to-use program. During an introductory meeting with the customer, the energy efficiency specialist at BED presents a history of the customer's electric consumption and a savings estimate. The specialist then designs a program that meets the specific energy needs of the customer while reducing electric costs.

BED provides the following services through the Top 10 Program:

bullet

A free energy evaluation of the facility and manufacturing process.

bullet

Up-front payment for an engineering study to identify, quantify and recommend energy-saving projects and operation and maintenance (O&M) procedure changes.

bullet

Assistance in obtaining financing for design engineering, project management and equipment installation.

bullet

Assistance in locating and selecting consulting engineers, project managers and contractors.

bullet

Assistance in locating manufacturers and local distributors of energy-saving products.

bullet

Assistance in dealing with electric energy issues aside from saving energy.

After all findings have been reviewed and the cost-effectiveness determined, BED will present the customer with the projects that qualify for the program and any available BED subsidies. The customer is responsible for coordinating the design engineering and construction bidding, overseeing the installation of the energy-saving projects and obtaining competitive pricing for all services and material.

BED inspects the customer's facility throughout the construction phase. Upon completion of all work and pending all approvals, the customer receives any available rebate by check. They also receive immediate savings on their electric costs. With this reduction in usage, the community benefits from a lower-cost power supply and society as a whole benefits from reduced emissions.

BED is working hard to help its commercial and industrial customers reduce their electric costs and keep their businesses more competitive. By working together with customers, BED is taking steps toward controlling future energy costs, protecting the environment, exploring better customer/utility relations and helping to keep Burlington a choice location for doing business.
