The Burlington Electric Department (BED) is soliciting interest through this Request for
Proposals (RFP) from entities able to design and implement systems to install a solar
canopy at our customer parking lot at 585 Pine Street, Burlington VT.

Is BED looking to get the IRS elective pay tax benefit for this project? If so, this could affect the solar products chosen for the project and project cost.

The RFP mentions soil conditions relating to canopy foundations. Do you have any more details about this?
Answer
The property in question is related to a superfund site (the Burlington Barge Canal).

Does BED have any preferred location or means of interconnecting the system to the BED grid?
Answer
The map provided in the RFP indicates that the preferred location is the row of parking immediately in front of BED’s offices. Alternative locations could be provided in addition to the preferred location if a vendor thought there were a reason to do so.

Is BED looking for a canopy that provides shelter from rain? If so, given that the back side of the solar modules should be exposed to make maximum use of their bifaciality we would want to include gaskets to reduce the water leakage between solar modules.

What is the service type and size for this location?
Answer
The feed to the panels would be underground and mostly likely fed from the existing 120/240V transformer that was installed for the new car chargers. Their electrician would determine the size of the underground cable to the transformer.
